Flutterwings were a species of insect native to the planet Gallifrey. Romana I studied their life cycle while at the Time Lord Academy. (TV: The Pirate Planet, PROSE: Set Piece)

The Eighth Doctor kept a flutterwing in his butterfly room, so large that upon her first visit to the room, Carolyn McConnell at first confused it with a cloud. (PROSE: Vampire Science) There was at least 5 species of flutterwing: Madrigal, Silverband, Wild Endeavour, Blue Crystal and Perdition. (AUDIO: Babblesphere)
