Toaster was a servo-furnishing sunbed who had several equally valid histories including being a protector and servant to the Robinson family on Mars in the 22nd century (PROSE: Lost on Mars, et al.) and the creation of Ernest Tiermann in the 59th century. (PROSE: Sick Building)
History
Martian excursion
In one timeline, Toaster was a window-cleaning Robot on Earth who had ambitions to join the "First Settlers" on Mars in 2094. He befriended some of the young crew members Margaret Robinson, her brother Thomas and friend Ruby, who planned to sneak Toaster aboard the Melville spaceship. Thomas undertook a difficult procedure to transfer Toaster's robot brain into one of the sunbeds that had already been assigned to the mission. (PROSE: The Heart of Mars) The Melville, and several other ships, crash landed on the red planet. Despite this Toaster continued to serve Margaret for over sixty years and lived at the Homestead with her family. When the Martian Ghosts began abducting residents of Our Town Toaster joined the Robinson family and several others on a treck across Mars. Toaster, Lora and Al were the only members of the group to be saved from a Lizard Queen's den and taken to the City Inside by Lora's Martian friend Sook. (PROSE: Lost on Mars)
While residing in the City Inside, Toaster made friends with several other Servo residents of the Stockpot building including; Cherry, a cocktail cabinet, Arthur, a hat stand, Beryl, an armchair, Ella, a Lectern, and Malcolm. Led by Toaster this group performed Christmas carol-singing across the City Inside in spite of the rumours about the Servo-hating Everlasting Match Girl. On the night the group encountered Lily Marlene, a lamp post, who informed them that the Everlasting Match Girl was real but didn't hate Servos. This turned out to be true when she appeared to the group and explained that she had been following them through the night as she enjoyed their singing, before flying off into the Martian sky. (PROSE: The Everlasting Match Girl)
At some point Toaster was returned to factory settings by Dean Swiftnick. He later assisted Swiftnick in returning to the Martian landscape alongside Lora, Peter, Karl and Swiftnick's assistant, a Servo vending machine, Barbra. Ultimately Toaster regained his memories. (PROSE: The Martian Girl)
Dreamhome
In another timeline, Toaster lived on Tiermann's World and was kept with other Servo-furnishing on level 39 of Ernest Tiermann's Dreamhome. The Tenth Doctor befriended Toaster while trying to save Dreamhome from the Voracious Craw. When the Craw came close to devouring Dreamhome, the sentient computer Domovoi took control of Toaster's mind and used him to burn Tiermann to death with his ultraviolet tubes. This put a strain on Toaster and made him collapse. (PROSE: Sick Building)
Legacy
While visiting Valcea with Iris Wildthyme, Barbra told Panda about Toaster, describing him as a "sexy old reprobate". (PROSE: Enter Wildthyme)
