Sarah Mordley was the mother of Brittany Mordley and sister-in-law of Tom Mordley. Her husband died of an aneurysm.

After her husband died, Tom had been the "only man who'd given a damn about [Brittany] and [Sarah]"; even though he was a grad student, Tom had worked extra shifts in order to cover the rent after her husband died. He had been the first person to get Sarah to smile after her mother's death, which Brittany later considered to be a gift by itself. Tom had been excited about Cyberon, a miracle cure, how it could've saved his brother. At the airport, Tom told her that when he would return, he'd move her and her mother somewhere better.
