Lichyrwick was a Scottish fishing town. The Ninth Doctor said it felt "unnaturally old". It had a high street, as well as a harbour and docks which were abandoned. The town was plauged by a monster, which caused its residents to remain indoors whenever the sun was down out of fear.

The presence of the creature caused a temporal displacement, resulting in many anacronisms throughout the town. When Malcolm helped the injured creature and the Ninth Doctor escorted it safely away from Earth the displacements were resolved, and the town carried on as if the creature had never been there.
