Cultural Firsts was a short story written by Richard Stokes and published in the 2010 Torchwood Magazine's issue 24. Mike Dowling provided the artwork.
It was subsequently reprinted in 2017's Torchwood Archives: Volume One.
Summary
At the Cardiff Millennium Centre, Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper - who along with Ianto Jones had agreed to try things outside their comfort zones - attend Puccini's La Rondine. Halfway through the performance Ianto contacted the pair and recalled them to the The Hub. Once they arrived he revealed that there had been rift activity within the Hub itself and that an individual had come through.
The individual, an Italian man, was placed in the cells by Ianto. Jack immediately identified the man as Leonardo da Vinci and it became apparent to the group that the pair had encountered each other previously. Jack stated that they needed to return Leonardo to his own time as they couldn't risk him being influenced by the future.
