Jack was a boy who lived with his widowed mother. Every Saturday he and his mother would go to the market. Jack would spend his allowance at the book store. He was collecting the volumes of the Books of Mayhem.

One Saturday, the bookseller told Jack that volume six was available. Jack paid one pound for it, and told the bookseller that he only had one volume left — volume twelve.

As Jack made his way through the market, he noticed a robot dog in the electrical equipment stall. He struck up a conversation with the dog, and they became friends. The dog was slowly being sold for parts. Jack would visit him every Saturday.

A few weeks later, Jack finally obtained the last volume of the Books of Mayhem. That same day, all that was left of the dog was its brain. Jack took the brain home with him. (PROSE: Kept Safe and Sound)
