The Books of Mayhem, (PROSE: 666 Charing Cross Road) or simply Books of Mayhem, was a series of horror themed anthologies edited by Fox Soames until his death. There were twelve volumes. (PROSE: Kept Safe and Sound)

The Twelfth Volume contained twelve short stories. Jack was collecting the volumes, though his mother didn't approve of him reading monster stories.

Authors who regularly contributed to the series included Algernon, Rosemary, Iris (PROSE: Kept Safe and Sound)

Soames' books were unavailable in New York City, so Liza Bathory wrote to 666 Charing Cross Road and K. N. Wright sent her The Best of the Books of Mayhem. (PROSE: 666 Charing Cross Road)
