The second Nestene invasion of Earth or second Auton invasion (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Terror of the Autons) was the second attempt by the Nestene Consciousness and its Autons to conquer Earth, with the aid of the Master, marking his first confrontation with the Third Doctor during the latter's exile on Earth.

The Auton Alliance was recorded in the Masterplan Journal left behind by Missy. (PROSE: The Secret Diary of the Master)

History

The Invasion

Having stolen the only intact energy unit leftover from their first invasion in October, which was named "Black Thursday" afterwards, the Master made contact with the Nestenes in early Summer and began manufacturing Autons and auto-jets, his own contribution to the invasion, using the plastics factory of Rex Farrel. An Auton leader spoke for the Nestene High Command and warned the Master not to let his feud with the Third Doctor cause the invasion to fail.

Hundreds of people were killed prematurely by the auto-jets, but a million units were distributed in the guise of plastic daffodils; the Nestenes assault force would land and send a signal, killing people across Great Britain and using the chaos and confusion to invade. During a battle between the Autons and UNIT, the Master opened a channel to the Nestene home world and a massive Nestene creature began to materialise. Convinced by the Doctor that the Nestenes would kill him as well, the Master and he worked together to reverse the polarity of the transfer shaft, sending the Nestenes back into space. (TV: Terror of the Autons)

Aftermath and legacy

A later incarnation of the Master made use of his own Nestene duplicate. (GAME: Destiny of the Doctors, HOMEVID: Destiny of the Doctors)

Whilst caught at the edge of the Last Great Time War, the Nestene Consciousness recognised, from its "old campaign", Earth amongst the planets which had been duplicated and used as weapons against it. Reeling from its wounds, the Nestene deliberately chose that "ridiculous" planet as a target for a new invasion, but would barely survive its confrontation with the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler. (PROSE: Revenge of the Nestene, TV: Rose)
