In 1854, following on from the events of the day previous, Hex escaped from Bartholomew Kitchen's jail, but Kitchen refound him when Hex decided to have a talk with Florence Nightingale. Brigadier-General Kitchen shot him in the shoulder. As Nightingale attempted to heal his wounds, the Seventh Doctor and Ace arrived and took him with them in the TARDIS.
