The Sasquatch, (AUDIO: Sting of the Sasquatch [+]Loading...["Sting of the Sasquatch (audio story)"]) also rendered as sasquatch, (PROSE: Winter on Mesique [+]Loading...["Winter on Mesique (short story)"]) were large, ape-like beings known in Earth legend, of which Bigfoot was the best-known individual. Though they were secretive, many accounts suggested they actually existed. By one account, the Sasquatch were highly intelligent, having evolved to manipulate their home planet by mere thought, becoming "masters and servants of a grand cosmic order" which permeated the multiverse. They communicated telepathically, and all of their technology resembled trees, mountains or deep pools of water. Though they tried not to upset local ecosystems, they ultimately became the origin of the Bigfoot myth on Earth. (AUDIO: Sting of the Sasquatch [+]Loading...["Sting of the Sasquatch (audio story)"])
Biology and abilities
The Sasquatch were brown furry hominoids who resembled giant apes. They evolved telepathic abilities, which became their sole means of communication.
Since they had to obey the physical laws of any universe they visited, they were unable to communicate within the Doctor's universe. However, they retained incredible physical strength here. The Fifteenth Doctor understood that one Sasquatch was showing a considerable amount of restraint in handling him. Technology
The Sasquatch used arboportation to travel instantly between universes, using trees to teleport across the Void, using a biphasic organic power source.
They grew wooden starships from seedlings, and learned the properties of multi-dimensional crystalline structures, leading to many advances.
One group of Sasquatch were based on the Evergreen Dream, an inter-universal spaceship which the Doctor described as "a sort of Void Ship", where they had medical technology capable of healing other creatures, like humans, with organic and psionic energy, in part using crystals to remove the sleeker infestation. History
Evolution into higher beings
The Sasquatch were apparently so attuned to their homeworld that they evolved to be able to manipulate their local surroundings. Over time, they developed a complex understanding of the natural sciences, which they coupled with a deep exploration into the technological potential in psionic energy, which could be channelled through crystals.
Being "one with nature", they kept hold of their most important philosophies as they developed in knowledge and power, and managed to avoid some of the pitfalls experienced by other higher species. Eventually, they reached a point where they could transcend their physical bodies entirely, and communicate telepathically even with members of other species.
Travelling the stars and beyond
Their "proudest achievement" was then the development of arboportation, which allowed them to travel across the Void into other universes in mere moments. However, this development created a particular supply problem: the power source required came from sleekers, who were rare threadworms, found on a planet at the edge of their galaxy.
The sleekers were unique creatures, capable of "connecting with each other" to the point that they could merge into one massive organism, or split apart into trillions, according to need. They were also a source of an organic energy pulse, which was unique to them.
The Sasquatch harvested them, and allowed the creatures to propagate through their arboportation network. Since they had already developed intergalactic travel, with their seed-grown inter-dimensional crafts, they now began to traverse the multiverse, inadvertently spreading these worms far and wide, onto countless worlds, and across countless realms.
Unbeknownst to them, the "strands" of sleekers that would travel with them were becoming "vampiric" in response to these unknown and often hostile environments. They began to infect indigenous lifeforms, controlling their bodies and absorbing their intelligence, making them abnormally aggressive. Ultimately, they would not need to keep their hosts alive.
Soon enough, whole worlds were wiped clean of all indigenous life, as a result of the sleeker contagion. However, the Sasquatch themselves were immune. Horrified, they began to work on halting this spread by following and treating new cases.
Encounter with the Fifteenth Doctor
One group of Sasquatch, navigating between universes aboard the Evergreen Dream, had a great feeling of regret over these unintended consequences. After accidentally infecting Earth in the Doctor's universe, they took to carrying humans away by arboportation, in order to cure them of the sleeker contagion, before returning them to their proper place.
Over the years, stories were passed down in North America about the Sasquatch, who came to be known in the popular consciousness as "Bigfoot". (AUDIO: Sting of the Sasquatch [+]Loading...["Sting of the Sasquatch (audio story)"]) Despite having been captured on camera in the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film, (PROSE: Suspicious Minds [+]Loading...["Suspicious Minds (short story)"]) they were generally regarded as a myth, even by the Fourteenth Doctor. (COMIC: Liberation of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Liberation of the Daleks (comic story)"])
On one occasion, Kilbo removed Ruby Sunday, to be treated, and the Fifteenth Doctor managed to hitch a ride with them, via arboportation, onto the Evergreen Dream. There, Helk recognised him as a Time Lord, a member of "a great civilisation", and asked for his assistance.
Though it seemed helpless, the Doctor managed to save Ruby using their technology, then Helk returned to Earth through a fir tree, bringing the Doctor and Ruby along with him, in order to find the sleekers' nest. (AUDIO: Sting of the Sasquatch [+]Loading...["Sting of the Sasquatch (audio story)"])
On Mesique
At least one sasquatch[nb 1] lived on Mesique. Arriving in winter, the Fifth Doctor, Tegan Jovanka and Vislor Turlough went to see a captured sasquatch, who went on to catch one of the rodents plaguing the people, providing a solution to their starvation problem. Inside the System
- Main article: The System (Sky Pirates!)
Within the System, an anomalous environment created by the Charon, most of the living beings were hybrids of humans, Draconians, Silurians, Sasquatches and Solarians, among other species. (PROSE: Sky Pirates! [+]Loading...["Sky Pirates! (novel)"])
