Doctor Who as a television series and the James Bond film franchises (which had begun originally as a book series) share common ground in terms of longevity, with both being revived successfully after lengthy hiatuses. Timothy Dalton, who played Rassilon in The End of Time played Bond. To date one other actor to have played Bond has appeared on both Doctor Who or its spin-offs and as Bond.

• During location filming at Lanzarote for Planet of Fire, Peter Davison posed for publicity photos for Planet of Fire with a prop gun and tuxedo with a bikini-clad Nicola Bryant by his side, in a classically Bond-like pose, to announce the latter's debut as Peri Brown.Jason Kane also adopts a "Bond pose" on the cover of Deadfall by Gary Russell. Trading Futures by Lance Parkin uses a pastiche Bond movie poster look.
• Fans of both series have jokingly speculated that Bond may be a Time Lord as he changes his appearance every few years. In the trailer to GoldenEye (though not in the film itself), Pierce Brosnan's first words as Bond, "You were expecting someone else?", echo the Sixth Doctor's first words after his regeneration in the last few moments of The Caves of Androzani.
• The Curse of Fatal Death was shot in Pinewood Studios, famous for being the studios used for the James Bond films.
• Many Doctor Who guest actors have appeared in the Bond film series over the years, including Honor Blackman, Julian Glover, John Cleese, Burt Kwouk, Catherine Schell, Jeremy Bulloch, Philip Locke, David Yip, and Joanna Lumley; several others, including Bernard Cribbins and Dave Prowse, appeared in 1967's Casino Royale, a James Bond spoof not considered part of the main series of films. Rowan Atkinson and Pamela Salem (playing Miss Moneypenny) also appeared in 1983's Never Say Never Again, an independently made Bond film again not connected to the main series. Writer/script editor Gary Russell played a small role in Octopussy near the end of his career as a child/teen actor.
• In the 1990s an animated series James Bond Jr. was produced. A series of novelisations based upon the show by "John Vincent" were published -- this was a pseudonym for Doctor Who novelist John Peel.
• Martin Shaw was once asked to put himself forward to play James Bond. In the interview in which he revealed this, he also noted that he would like to play the Doctor.[1]
