Story notes
Russell T. Davies has stated that this episode "does exactly what it says on the tin". Stephen Greenhorn's episode has the Doctor facing a dilemma unlike anything before, and it is wildly different to "The Lazarus Experiment". He also said that his episode was designed by Russell to "change the Doctor" in a big episode that will have "a real impact on him" and that, in terms of the series continuity, it will be a "lasting impact".

Rumours
- The monster featured in this episode will be called the Hath. They apparently communicate via bubbles. Catherine Tate mentioned a future monster called the Hath during the podcast for Partners in Crime. This was proved to be true.
- Some people believe that the episode title is a red herring. Because of this some have speculated that the Doctor's daughter is actually:
- Created by the Hath's bubbles.
- Created by aliens from stolen DNA from the Doctor and the Master.
- Created by the Master (or someone else) using the Doctor's hand.
- An illusion.
- A clone. All of these theories have been proven incorrect as the writer, Russel T Davies and Georgia Moffat herself have all said the character is the Doctor's actual daughter, not a clone or anything else.
- Some have speculated that Jenny is Susan's mother. This seems highly likely as the crew have mentioned there will be more references to the past of the series.
- The Judoon are rumoured to appear in flashbacks in this episode.
- It is rumored to be a sad episode; some people believe that Jenny will sacrifice herself to save the Doctor.
- The Doctor's name is almost revealed, which could be a series story-arc. Unlikely to be a story arc as his name is not really going to have any story impact. Could still occur as it has been mentioned his name is "Hidden in the cascade of Medusa herself" showing that the production team acknowledge that he has a true name other than "The Doctor"
- An unlikely rumours is said that the Rani and the Doctor were te parents of Jenny. Or could Rose be the mother? The Rani theory may hold some weight as the Doctor had some measure of respect for her, though this would make her a full blood Time Lord so the Doctor's lack of surprise at meeting her contradicts his attitude to being the "Last of the Time Lords" throughout the series, as well as his declaration to the Master that they were "The only ones left". Rose is also unlikely as she only admits her love for the Doctor in Doomsday, something that would surely have occured sooner had they had a child together.
