Carole Rose was a notorious highway-woman that had a fearsome reputation for robberies, around York before she was hung in 1735. Her image was revived some ten years later in 1745 along a forest path the Malthill Way, through Malthill Wood by a shield-o-gram, the guardian of a damaged craft piloted by Fenfoff Fonfeffian. Such was the fear created by the ghostly apparition of Carole Rose that for a while Fentoff was helpless to control it until the Doctor arrived and carried out a rescue. (DWA: Malthill Way)
