Terminal of Despair was a novel in the Doctor Who 2 in 1 books range.
Publisher's Summary
In Terminal of Despair, the TARDIS crew is quarantined in Terminal 4000, where the hideous Desponds have destroyed the hopes of all awaiting passengers. Can the Doctor and his friends help them escape without succumbing to despair themselves?
Plot
The Doctor, Amy and Rory have landed inside what they believe to be a spaceport. They decide to investigate their surroundings. The Doctor meets a flight attendant who is wearing a grim face. She explains that thirteen creatures had invaded Terminal 4000. Meanwhile, Amy and Rory were searching inside a shop. They soon discover that something's inside with them.
It turns out that a dog-like creature was inside the shop and when Amy approaches it, the thing jumps on her and from its mouth protrudes a tentacle that tries to latch onto her throat. Rory manages to help knock it out the way and they escape from the shop. The Doctor hears that the creatures are called Desponds, dog-like aliens that feed off hope. Now everyone is despairing because there is no hope left inside them.
The TARDIS crew meet up with Roger McDowell who had apparently shot one of the creatures before and now there were twelve. The Doctor then follows Janie along with Amy to the control room, hoping he could fix something. Rory remains with the people in the lounge and meets Mr Henry and Mrs Henry. They arrive inside the control room and the Doctor starts tinkering with the machine. Realising that an alien had just entered, the computer released a killing gas, which Janie and Amy started to choke on. The outside doors began to close.
The Doctor manages to disperse the gas, which didn't affect him, only Amy and Janie. Rory, inside the lounge, wanted to find where Amy and the Doctor had gone to and found a room where Roger was finding. Roger suddenly knocked him on the head with but of a gun. The Doctor decides the only way they could escape is if he died. Amy isn't so sure.
The Doctor performs one of his Time Lord tricks where he can close down both hearts. Amy and Janie escape and return to the lounge. He wakes up again and tries to figure a way out. Inside the lounge, everything is chaos. A group of people were discussing a way of raiding the shop where other groups had managed to enter. This was the only way they could survive. Amy and Janie were pushed into helping them.
Amy and Janie were caught in the raid as they attacked using sticks and whatever weapon-like objects they could find. Rory awoke inside a space ship, where he found Roger who introduced him to Cap. Seeing him with the Doctor, they believed that he could fix their engine inside their ship. Rory was forced to agree, even after he pleaded not to.
The Doctor was still inside the control room and was figuring out a way of removing the quarantine on the spaceport. Trying to find a way of escaping the room, the Doctor was given an electrical shock from the panel. Amy was starting to get worried about Rory, he was nowhere to be seen.
