The Crimean War (1853-1856) was a conflict fought between Russia and the British Empire and its allies, including France.

Mollie Dawson's uncle was killed at the Battle of Inkerman in 1854. The Doctor was present at the Charge of the Light Brigade. (DW: The Evil of the Daleks, BFA: The Angel of Scutari) The Doctor later claimed to have been wounded at the Crimea. (DW: The Sea Devils)

Hex worked with Florence Nightingale, treating the wounded at the Scutari field hospital. (BFA: The Angel of Scutari) Baron De Guerre also fought in the Crimean War. (TDL: The Vampire of Paris)

The War Lords kidnapped Crimean War soldiers for use in their War Games. (DW: The War Games)

On 11 November 1913, an elderly veteran of the Crimean War stood outside the entrance to the village hall in Farringham, Herefordshire where Joan Redfern and John Smith were attending a dance. Smith gave a donation to what the ex-soldier called the "Veterans of the Crimea", apparently a charity for by then aged survivors of the war. The veteran was later vapourised by Son of Mine.
