Xaai was a female Nooman naieen. Before she went through the Promotion transformation, she was a male, and part of an expedition with Epreto. The naieen tortured her until she remembered what Epreto had been doing, as normally a naieen's pre-Promotion life was forgotten.
Later, when she revealed Epreto's plans to the Dead, they gave her an antidote to the poison he planned to use to kill the Sky. Before she could use it, Epreto shoots her. (PROSE: Speed of Flight)
