Derek John Newark (8 June 1933, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England - 11 August 1998) appeared in two Doctor Who stories: as Za in An Unearthly Child and Greg Sutton in Inferno. Outside Doctor Who, Newark is perhaps best known on TV for his role as Spooner in the popular sitcom Rising Damp.

He was part of the Royal National Theatre company which opened its present home on the South Bank and worked on many landmark productions on the South Bank, the West End and on Broadway. Early in his career, Derek Newark was a member of the Belgrade Theatre Company, whose members included Ian McKellan. Over the years, he appeared in episodes of the television series Dixon of Dock Green, Dad's Army, The Avengers, Rumpole of the Bailey and Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em. He also had supporting roles in the television miniseries' Reilly: Ace of Spies, Masada and War and Remembrance.
