Hannibal was a Carthaginian military commander and tactician, generally regarded as one of the greatest commanders in history, best known for crossing the Alps with war-elephants to conquer Rome.
The Fourth Doctor claimed to have met Hannibal, (PROSE: The English Way of Death) and mistook the Brigadier for him. (TV: Robot)
Hannibal crossed the Alps by using vinegar to dissolve boulders. Harriet Jones was reminded of this when the Ninth Doctor told Mickey Smith to use vinegar against the Slitheen attempting to kill Jackie Tyler and him. (TV: World War Three)
Barbara Wright, to distract the Daleks, fabricated a story of a revolt which included Hannibal's forces crossing the Alps. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)
