Henry Wittington Smythe was an old Major who stayed in the Carstairs hotel on the planet Chelsea 426. He had fought in many wars and even encountered the Sontarans once before. During the Rutan/Sontaran war he was evacutated to the Doctor's TARDIS, as were Jake and Vienna Carstairs. He was killed when Wallace Fitch in Rutan control attacked him.
