He made [[racist]] remarks to [[Martha Jones]], who was working as a maid at his school. He was particularly quick to call Tim a coward during military drills and the real-life conflict with the [[scarecrow]]s. He and Tim joined the [[British Army]] in [[World War I]], serving on the Western Front. Tim eventually passed Hutchinson in rank and saved his life on the battlefield.
