The Masterbakers of Barastabon were bakers known for their high-quality confectionery.
Romana II went alone to Barastabon, their home planet, to get one of their sponge cakes as a surprise for K9's birthday. The cake's trip through the Doctor's TARDIS, combined with the strange properties of the confectionery-based planet on which the crew had found themselves, caused the Cake to gain sentience.
