The Radio Times reported Mark Gatiss was writing an episode for series 10, possibly a sequel to his series 9 episode, Sleep No More.[5]

On 30 November Steven Moffat revealed Jamie Mathieson had "just been in and pitched a brilliant idea, a brilliant new monster."[6]

Steven Moffat announced Series 10 would have "two writers who have never written Doctor Who before" and teased, "If I told you their names, your brain would explode."[7]
