Maria Backhouse worked at St Ursula's College in 1939. She liked reading the novels of Sarah Perry. She was a Nazi. Backhouse was supposedly appalled by the letters sent to Ruth Horwitz and wanted Peri Brown to investigate the politics of Joan Dalton, who was a Communist. She later stole Ruth's eye, and used its properties to hide, after she was discovered to have written the pen letters. (AUDIO: An Eye For Murder)
