Someone on the show might just be a ''Marathon'' (Bungie) fan and lifted UESC (''Unified'' Earth Space Council in that context) as in the colony ship UESC Marathon. United Earth?
Are we sure "United Earth" is a united government at all? All I see in Smile is not "United Earth", but the "United Earth Colonisation Team", which may be a colonisation team associated with United Earth, or it may be a colonisation team for Earth which is united.
