Storm in a Tikka was the nineteenth short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips and Side Steps. It was written by Mike Tucker and Robert Perry. It featured the Seventh Doctor, Ace and K9. The story was reasonably serious, but was intended to be set in-between Dimensions in Time and Search Out Space; both stories often judged by fans for being outside regular continuuity.
The story noticeably retconed that the K9 featured in the final moments of Dimensions in Time was actually a specific model built by the Seventh Doctor instead of one of the earlier versions pulled through time by the Rani. As the final scene of the story only shows the Doctor and Ace from the waists up, one could easily imagine that K9 is below them entering the TARDIS around the same time. Likewise, the suggestion of the text is that the K9 seen in Search Out Space was also this variation.
