Brian Wilson Aldiss (18 August 1925-19 August 2017),[1] was a longstanding author of science fiction and criticism. He was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005.

Aldiss was the author of the short story Umwelts for Hire in The Brilliant Book 2011. Aged 85 at the time of its publication, Aldiss was one of the oldest contributors of any kind to the Doctor Who franchise and one of its most prominent contributors (at least within the science fiction realm).
