The Five Doctors Special Edition is an adapted version of The Five Doctors. Among the many things changed is that new scenes were added that were cut from the original version bringing the runtime up to about 100 minutes. In addition some other scenes were reordered to match the script. It was released alongside the original version on Disc Two on the DVD release of The Five Doctors in 2008.

Story notes
- Previously other edited versions of The Five Doctors have been released such as a four part version and an cut down version with two minutes missing of original material.
- When the Fourth Doctor was returned to his proper place in space and time a different clip from Shada was used, this time to suggest that the events of the televised story could indeed have occurred.
