Morris Heggie was a general in the Union army during the American Civil War. Although his exact command was unknown, he was in some sense with Captain Will Johnson's direct chain of command. In a letter dated 19 March 1865, he granted permission for Private Moses Smith to be placed under Johnson's command, thanks in part to the fact that Johnson had assisted with Smith's emancipation.
