Butetown was an area in Cardiff, approximate to Tiger Bay.
In the mid 20th century, Butetown was smoke-filled with confined narrow streets. Its proximity to the docks meant that its brothels and pubs were frequented by dockworkers, sailors, waifs and "strays from every corner of the globe".
