A fourth series of Torchwood has been "greenlit" according to interviews given by John Barrowman in late November 2009.[1][2] It has not yet been officially announced by the BBC as of 1st December 2009. No production schedule or broadcast dates have been announced by the BBC. Russell T Davies is expected to continue as producer despite having left this position with Doctor Who (based upon comments made by him at the San Diego Comic Con in August 2009), however this has yet to be made official by the BBC.
On 19 January 2010, the Hollywood Reporter and other American media reported that Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter are planning to launch an American version of Torchwood for the Fox network which might involve some of the original cast. The nature of this series, and whether it will be a spin-off tying in with Torchwood and Doctor Who continuity, or a standalone Americanized remake (in the same vein as the American versions of Davies' Queer as Folk and BBC Wales' Life on Mars) is unknown. Nor is it yet known what impact, if any, this may have on production of a fourth series for the BBC.[3]
In an interview with Jonathan Ross on 5th February 2010, Barrowman would not commit as to whether there will in fact be a fourth season.[2]

Broadcast dates
The BBC has not, as of 5th February 2010, announced a broadcast date for the series. Given that the BBC tends not to make such announcements until soon before broadcast, any statements suggesting a 2010 or 2011 broadcast must be taken as speculative for the time being.
