Artios

Artios was the grandchild of one version of Peri Brown who had lived with Yrcanos as a warrior queen. Along with his brother, Euthys, he was the son of Peri and Yrcanos' daughter, Queen Yrcanthia, by her husband, King Corynus, who ruled jointly for a time with their maternal grandparents. He assumed his sister, Actis, was also Corynus' child, but she was actually born from a dalliance between their mother and Bionema, a telepathic alien being of immense power who had been worshipped as a god on Krontep for generations.

Shortly after Actis' sixth birthday, their father, Corynus fell in an accident. And as their grandfather, Yrcanos came close to joining him, Chancellor Farlig, set the two brothers against one another, telling both that the other was conspiring against Krontep with an alien. Little did they realise that a Nahrung had seized Farlig as a host and wished to tear the royal family asunder to feed on their pain as well as the devastation which would be wrought on Krontep by the civil war. The dispute between her grandsons led Queen Perpugilliam to exile herself from court. When the war claimed the life of Queen Yrcanthia, Farlig exiled Artios and Euthys to the Killing Grounds, an area of Krontep reserved for prisoners, whilst Actis, still only a child, became Queen in name only until she married.

In the Killing Grounds, the brothers were both captured by Algifer and his monks, who tortured them into submission. Euthys managed to escape and only discovered hope when he met Frobisher and his sister's pet, Ptou, in the tunnels. After reuniting with the Doctor and their sister, the brothers revealed Farlig as being the cause for the civil war between them, which led the Doctor to deduce Farlig was the Nahrung. In the chaos of defeating Farlig, they were reunited with their grandmother, now going by Ranith, and upon discovering Actis' true parentage from Frobisher, agreed to allow their sister to rule, having come to know her natural leadership abilities over them.
