Unless I'm forgetting or not noticing some other bit of evidence, the only indication of it being the new year is Graham wishing Yaz a "Happy New Year". That doesn't necessarily mean it ''is'' currently New Years Day; maybe Ryan and Graham hadn't gotten around to visiting Yaz until the day after? I believe people still say "Happy New Year" to others that they may not have gotten to see during the occasion. At the very least, I'd have put a "circa" in front of the date.
