In the [[DWU]], though — or at least as portrayed in ''Son of the Dragon'' — it comes across as something that Vlad the Great dreamt up.

Order of the Dragon

The Order of the Dragon was a secret organization founded in the 15th century to repel the Ottoman Turk invasion of Europe and deal with the threat of pre-human cultures like the Mal'akh. (PROSE: The Book of the War)

By one account, it was created by the Vlad the Great, who was personally known as "the Dragon"; (AUDIO: Son of the Dragon) by another account, its founder was Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund of Hungary.

The Order had ties to the Society of St George. The emblem of the Order was a dragon suspended from a crucifix, reminiscent of the St George legend. Amongst the artefacts they collected was a severed head which was said to have come from Africa "before the Fall". (PROSE: The Book of the War)
