Vivisection

Vivisection was a scientific procedure in which a living lifeform's body was cut into pieces to learn its anatomy as opposed to dissection, which was performed on the dead. (TV: The Categories of Life)

Malohkeh, the Silurian scientist, did vivisection on living specimens. He vivisected Mo Northover and almost did the same to Amy Pond. (TV: The Hungry Earth|Cold Blood)
