Shortly afterwards were attacked by a vampire monkey with a syringe. They were saved by Fey Truscott-Sade. Later they found out that Canon Pincock was killed by a vampire monkey and that the monkeys were acting according to Varney's orders. Varney had developed biological weapons which infected monkey's and other creatures and turned them into vampires. After destroying Varney's cucurbite, the infected creatures were healed. (COMIC: Tooth and Claw)

Missy told Clara Oswald that an incarnation of the Doctor once fell into a nest of vampire monkeys after escaping death at the hands of Android Assassins. (TV: The Witch's Familiar)
