Blair Mowat (born in Edinburgh, Scotland) composed the score (including leitmotifs) for the Doctor Who spin-off Class and wrote the opening theme for BBC's Doctor Who: The Fan Show, as well as Classmates.

He also composed a new arrangement of the Torchwood theme, as well as incidental music, for the Big Finish Torchwood series. After collaborating with Mark Gatiss on the Radio 4 project The Blind Man, he then went on to compose the music for the Big Finish audio adaptation of Gatiss's Doctor Who novel Nightshade, composing a score which heavily evoked the music of the McCoy era.

In 2016, he composed a new arrangement of the Doctor Who theme for The Unbound Universe box set. Since then he has gone on to work on over 100 Big Finish stories as a composer. He has also written scripts for two stories in the Class audio range at Big Finish, receiving praise for his grip on the characters.

in 2017 he composed the music for a specially filmed trailer for Series 10 (Doctor Who).

During Doctor Who: Lockdown! he composed the score for Sven and the Scarf (webcast) and Rory's Story (webcast). He also released unseen images and music during mass rewatches of Class (TV series) on Twitter.

As a musical arranger he has worked on Doctor Who with composer Murray Gold during the start of the Peter Capaldi era. A lifelong fan of the show, and clearly passionate about its musical history, many have speculated about his involvement as composer in the 2023 Russell T Davies era or, indeed, beyond.

Outside the world of Doctor Who Blair is a very successful composer, working on hit shows such as McDonald & Dodds which has featured many Doctor Who cast members such as Paul McGann, Louise Jameson and Naoko Mori. In 2021 he composed the score for the remake of The Amazing Mr Blunden, directed by Mark Gatiss, which features strong connections to Doctor Who through its plot involving time travel, and family-intended audience. The project was the first to be recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra[1] in their new space 'Scotland's Studio'. In late 2022 Blair announced he was the composer for Russell T Davies’s drama Nolly, starring Helena Bonham Carter and marking their first collaboration together. The soundtrack was released on March 17th, 2023 via Silva Screen Records. In 2023 Blair composed the score for Hammer Horror's remake of Doctor Jekyll, a new film starring Eddie Izzard, though no release date has yet been announced.
