Paul Seed (born 18 September 1947[1]) is a British actor who portrayed the Graff Vynda-K in the Doctor Who television story The Ribos Operation.
During the filming of that serial, Seed's dog bit Tom Baker on the lip after Baker tried to perform a trick with the dog that Seed himself had performed. This left a scar on Baker's lip that was visible for much of the rest of the season.[2]
Career
Early in his career, he appeared in the likes of Coronation Street and Tales of the Unexpected.
Shortly after filming for The Ribos Operation finished, Seed asked producer Graham Williams to recommend him for a place on the BBC Directors' course; Williams agreed, and Seed ultimately completed the course. He went on to direct the smash-hit shows House of Cards and its sequel To Play the King. The former show had its production design done by Ken Ledsham, who had previously worked on The Ribos Operation and other Doctor Who serials, and on the first day of filming Ledsham showed the cast and crew a tape of Seed's performance of the Graff Vynda-K as a joke.
More recently, Seed has directed episodes of New Tricks, Northern Lights, Lark Rise to Candleford and Just William.
