Revision as of 15:16, 10 September 2023
WhoSpy was a feature on the Doctor Who website which launched on 20 July 2004.[1] A "spy" on the Doctor Who production team uploaded a new behind-the-scenes photo every weekday throughout the filming of Series 1. This feature continued partially throughout Series 2 whereafter it only returned for the following 4 Christmas Specials.
A recurring sequence of numbers, 23 6 801, seen in many of the WhoSpy photographs, was a bit of "misleading fun" that sparked many fan theories.[2]
Following a little more than a decade of absence, WhoSpy would make a return in 2023 in time for the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who.[3]
Series 1
WhoSpy initially ran for 36 weeks, finishing on 23 March 2005 and had a total of 176 photos. Following the launch of the "new series" website, it was moved to its "The Making of Doctor Who" section; from the BBC Cult site. During the broadcast of Series 1 the pictures were updated with captions explaining what the photos were of and which episodes they came from.
