Kiev was the capital city of Ukraine. The First Doctor, Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet visited the city in 1240. (PROSE: Bunker Soldiers)
As Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union during the 20th century, (AUDIO: Thin Ice) Kiev became the site of a battle as part of Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Huge numbers of Russian soldiers were taken prisoner by the Wehrmacht. (PROSE: Just War)
Behind the scenes
- In the real world, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the KyivNotKiev campaign in 2018 to promote the Ukrainian spelling Kyiv (Київ) over the Russian-language name Kiev (Киев). However, since all DWU sources have called the city "Kiev" rather than "Kyiv", per T:NO RW this page will stay at "Kiev".
