Stuart Sutcliffe was a musician who left the Beatles in Hamburg, according to Jack Harkness, "before they made it big".
Jack called him a nice guy, stating that he invented the mop-top haircut and was a dab hand at the old collage technique. Jack was confused as to whether his girlfriend was called Astrid or Ingrid.
Jack named one of the alien tapeworms Stuart in his honour. (PROSE: Slow Decay)
Having seen that both he and Sutcliffe would not live much longer, the Sixth Doctor learnt to play the bass guitar and hypnotised Sutcliffe into going home to his girlfriend, instead of joining the other members to play in a Hamburg nightclub. The Doctor claimed to be a friend of Sutcliffe's, and played with the band for one night. (PROSE: Gone Too Soon)
