The Great Retrenchment was a 10,000 year Dark Age that started during a conflict between Kallix Grover and the Sine Wave Shrine of Shillitar in 436,000 when a wave of magnetic energy hit Earth by mistake. Earth's vast grid of nanotechnology was wiped out and the planet was cut off from space, so humans instead turned to biology and chemistry.
