Vincent van Gogh was a Human born on Earth in 1853. He was a painter in the late 19th century. During the latter part of the century, he lived in Montmartre for a period of time. Van Gogh suffered from intense mental illness, including bipolar disorder and bouts of anxiety. He died at the age of thirty seven from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Although largely unknown at the time of his death, he has gone on to be regarded as one of the greatest painters of all time.

Harry Sullivan attended an exhibition of van Gogh's work and met a young woman named Samantha there. Sullivan was later linked to the Van Gogh Appreciation Society (a front for the European Anarchist Revolution) and its leader, Zbigniew Brodsky. (TC: Harry Sullivan's War) In 1889 Van Gogh encountered the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond where he called Amy cute before accepting her offer to share a bottle of wine however before they could enjoy there beverage several villagers screamed as a young girl ended up dead. When the Doctor, Van Gogh & Amy attempted to help the girl one of the villagers blamed Vincent for the accident and threw rocks at him and the others. Vincent allowed the Doctor and Amy to stay in his home which was cluttered with paintings he viewed as worthless unaware that they would eventually be the greatest selling paintings of all time. When amy got attacked by the Gryfface it was revealed that vincent was the only one who could see the "monster" allowing him to save both Amy and the Doctor from harm. Later on with a little help from Amy and The Doctor, Vincent agreed to help them stop the Gryfface from killing anyone else. However before they were about to leave for the Church Vincent had a breakdown showing that he was upset because like everyone else before both Amy and the Doctor would leave and he would be forgotten. When the Doctor tried to show empathy towards Vincent the artist was angered and asked the doctor to get out. After Calming down Vincent once again decided to help the Doctor stating that if Amy Pond could march on he could to. When they reached the Church Van Gogh started to draw and after several hours he spotted the Gryfface once again in one of the church windows. When the Doctor left to confront the Gryfface Vincent noticed that it had turned around and attacked the Doctor prompting amy to pursue him into the church to see if he was okay. Vincent charged into the church to ward of the Gryfface allowing the Doctor, Amy and Himself to get to safety and hide. Whilst in hiding from the Gryfface the Doctor noticed that the Gryfface was blind and had exceptional hearing and that it was scared being all alone on earth. When the Gryfface turned towards the noise of the doctors voice Vincent out of fear attempted to use a chair to once again ward off the creature however being blind the Gryfface accidently charged straight into the chair impaling itself and dying. Vincent had stated he never ment that to happen and said "It wasn't a creature without remorse, it was a creature without sight". Before a tearful farewell the Doctor took Vincent to 2010 to the Van Gogh Museum Exhibit where he asked Dr.Black where he rated Vincent Van Gogh in the top 10 greatest artists of all time where Dr Black had stated unequally that Van Gogh was the greatest actor of all time who turned the sad aspects of life into the most beautiful art the world had ever seen and would probably ever see again and that for this fact he was not only the greatest artist but also one of the greatest men of all time which prompted vincent to cry tears of happiness. After thanking Doctor Black he returned to his own time with a new found respect for Life and after thanking the Doctor and saying to Amy that if they ever had kids they'd be very red headed left the doctor smiling. Unfortunetly despite the Doctor and Amy's best efforts Vincent killed himself the following year which deeply upset Amy when she and the Doctor returned to the van gogh exhibit as it felt like they had made no difference in the Artists life, however the doctor managed to point out that they had made several good things change in vincents life and even though that would never effect the bad it would have made a difference in the end illustrating his point by noticing a painting of a Sunflower (Given to Vincent by Amy in 1889) with the words "To Amy and the Doctor".
