Timeline for 2012 |
2006 • 2007 • 2008 • 2009 • 2010 • 2011 • 2013 • 2014 • 2015 • 2016 • 2017 • 2018 |
Publicly, the year 2012 was notable for being the year that the Summer Olympics were held London, and the year that the United States held a presidential election. Secretly, however, in an underground bunker in Utah, 2012 was the year that the Doctor first learned he was not the only survivor of the Last Great Time War.
July
- 27 - The 2012 Summer Olympics opens in London, during a period of unseasonably cold weather in the city. Due to a mishap along the torch relay route, the Olympic Flame is lit at the opening ceremonies by the Doctor who appears on international television. Afterward, he and Rose Tyler attend a neighbourhood celebration in London. (DW: Fear Her; date based upon real-world announcements)
- By this time, the Torchwood Institute would appear to be relatively well known, enough that the Battle of Canary Wharf of several years earlier is now known as the "Battle of Torchwood" (DW: Fear Her).
November
- The United States holds its presidential election. Earlier in the year, Diana Goddard expressed hope that the Democratic Party would win, as she found them "funny". (DW: Dalek)
Unknown dates
- In Utah, in an underground facility called The Vault, the "last Dalek" meets the Doctor and Rose Tyler, causes a power surge that blacks out much of the western United States, and eventually kills itself. Afterward, Adam Mitchell accepts an invitation to join the Doctor on their travels. Henry van Statten, a powerful billionaire who claims to own the Internet at this time, is stripped of his position in the aftermath of the Dalek incident and (apparently) has his memory erased. (DW: Dalek)
- At some point after this incident, The Vault is sealed and a BBC Radio documentary crew does an investigative report on the creatures known as Daleks. (BBCR: The Dalek Conquests)
- As the 2012 US election is referenced as having not happened yet, this means these events occurred prior to November.
- The Doctor returns Adam Mitchell to his own time zone after being expelled from the TARDIS; Adam immediately causes a panic in his household when an advanced biochip implant from the future is revealed in his forehead. (DW: The Long Game)
