Vortex spheres were Gallifreyan space-time vessels. Councillor Volstrom sent one to rescue Liv Chenka and Helen Sinclair as they floated in outer space. It quickly began to fall apart due to the condition of the Time Vortex, but Liv was able to get it to take them to London at some point after the 25th century. (AUDIO: Songs of Love)
