The Cheshire Cat

|Doctor Who In Wonderland [+]Loading...["Doctor Who In Wonderland (novel)"] The "fabled" Cheshire Cat was a being native to Wonderland, documented accordingly within Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. (AUDIO: Iris Wildthyme and the Land of Wonder [+]Loading...["Iris Wildthyme and the Land of Wonder (audio story)"])

Biography

This section's awfully stubby.

Information from Iris Wildthyme and the Polythene Terror needs to be added.

The Cheshire Cat was known for vanishing "a piece at a time". After talking with Ace, Legion vanished in a similar fashion. (PROSE: Lucifer Rising [+]Loading...["Lucifer Rising (novel)"])

At some point, the Cat sat atop the Cheshire Rug in the Cheshire House, contemplating how lucky he was to not be named the Merseyside Cat and "inanely" grinning in anticipation of his guest ― you. The Cat was asked for a story, and, after a moment of fruitless conversation, the Cat lead you into the house to the stories. He handed you a chocolate egg and faded away as you began to enjoy the stories. (PROSE: I'm Dreaming of a Cheshire Easter [+]Loading...["I'm Dreaming of a Cheshire Easter (short story)"])

Legacy

After the Eighth Doctor was infused with anti-time and had taken the persona of Zagreus, his TARDIS worked to keep the Zagreus persona subsumed by holding him near a concentration of Zero Energy. The TARDIS reconfigured one of its rooms into a forest with a replica of the Cheshire Cat, known as simply "the Cat", perched on a tree branch. (AUDIO: Zagreus [+]Loading...["Zagreus (audio story)"])

The Tenth Doctor and Will Buckland were described as having a grin like the Cheshire Cat. (AUDIO: The Shattered Hourglass [+]Loading...["The Shattered Hourglass (audio story)"], PROSE: At Childhood's End [+]Loading...["At Childhood's End (novel)"])

Psychological profile

Personality

The Cheshire Cat was good-natured but was prone to obfuscation. He had many grins for different occasions, including an inane one for Guests.

He considered the name "Cheshire" to be superior to "Merseyside". You considered the Cat's tail to be frisky after he frisked it. (PROSE: I'm Dreaming of a Cheshire Easter [+]Loading...["I'm Dreaming of a Cheshire Easter (short story)"])

Appearance

The Cheshire Cat had muted green fur with similarly muted blue stripes. (PROSE: I'm Dreaming of a Cheshire Easter [+]Loading...["I'm Dreaming of a Cheshire Easter (short story)"])

Behind the scenes

  • The Cheshire Cat was voiced by Stephen Fry in the 2010 film version of Alice in Wonderland.
  • The Cheshire Cat is a recurring element in many of Paul Magrs's works, inclusion several not covered by this Wiki.
