The Doctor's fur coat was a fur coat used and worn by some incarnations of the Doctor in cold weather.

History

By one account, the coat was made of polyester rather than animal skin and was bought by the Doctor on the planet Thraxis. (AUDIO: No Place Like Home [+]Loading...["No Place Like Home (audio story)"])

Use by the Second Doctor

The Doctor first wore it during his second incarnation when visiting the Himalayas. He wore the coat to protect himself from the cold, but the coat led him to being mistaken for the Robot Yeti who had been killing villagers. The Doctor was able to prove his innocence and stop the Yeti, thus foiling the Great Intelligence. (TV: The Abominable Snowmen [+]Loading...["The Abominable Snowmen (TV story)"])

The Doctor wore the coat again when first encountering the Ice Warriors. (TV: The Ice Warriors [+]Loading...["The Ice Warriors (TV story)"])

He wore the coat while on an adventure, unknowingly running past both the Eighth Doctor and one of Clara Oswald's echoes. (TV: The Name of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Name of the Doctor (TV story)"])

He wore the coat when he visited his old friend the Brigadier in the 1980s. (TV: The Five Doctors [+]Loading...["The Five Doctors (TV story)"])

He wore the coat when he visited a village near Lake Garda in 3300 BC. (PROSE: Loop the Loup [+]Loading...["Loop the Loup (short story)"])

While travelling with the Third Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith wore the coat to keep warm in Devon in 1855. (AUDIO: The Devil's Hoofprints [+]Loading...["The Devil's Hoofprints (audio story)"])

At one point, the Fifth Doctor stopped and studied the coat in the TARDIS wardrobe. (AUDIO: No Place Like Home [+]Loading...["No Place Like Home (audio story)"])

The Sixth Doctor once donned his predecessor's fur coat, recalling how useful it had been against the Yeti. (AUDIO: Beyond the Ultimate Adventure [+]Loading...["Beyond the Ultimate Adventure (audio story)"])

The Seventh Doctor once tried the coat on while trying to find a new costume. He hid his new costume under it.
