The Outland was over forty miles south of Christmas, separated by a trackless wilderness. It contained wild beasts and was dangerously cold.
Tiberius Gluck lived in the Outland for forty years in the hope of becoming rich by finding precious metal deposits; he had once discovered placer fragments where the ancient creeks used to run.
