Police forces are government organisations charged with the responsibility of maintaining law and order. Owing to his renegade status and his penchant for arriving at a particular place and time just as trouble is starting, the Doctor has had numerous encounters with police and other officers of the law on his travels.
- A lone policeman patrolled the Coal Hill area of London in 1963. Despite passing a junk yard owned by I.M. Foreman he did not notice the presence of a strange humming police box. - ("An Unearthly Child")
