Patrick "Pat" Rowlinson and his wife Elizabeth ran the Gore Crow Hotel, a small hotel in Carbury, in rural England.

Among the local regulars were archaeologist Peter Warmsly and scientifically-minded Shou Yuing; Pat and Elizabeth's hotel also once hosted the Doctor and Ace while they were investigating an inter-dimensional distress call that the Doctor had traced to the sleepy rural village.
