Area 51, alternatively called Wright Patterson Air Base or Wright Field (and nicknamed Dreamland) was a secret U.S. military base established near Dry Springs, Nevada following an alien spaceship crash in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. The base was designed to hold Seruba Velak and re-engineer her wrecked ship, among many other alien artifacts. In 1958, when the Tenth Doctor was taken to the base, it was under the command of Colonel Stark. (DW: Dreamland)
In 1969, Canton Delaware used the base as his headquarters while helping the Eleventh Doctor fight against the Silence. The Doctor faked imprisonment inside an unbreakable prison during his stay there. (DW: Day of the Moon)
During his brief stay on Earth in 2009, Androvax made Mr Smith hack into the Dreamland base's computer systems to acquire the schematics for the ship. Using the designs he built a ship for himself to try to escape. (SJA: Prisoner of the Judoon)
Behind the scenes
- The base's vault bears some similarity to Hangar 51 in the Indiana Jones series. It was first seen in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and then in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, housing at least both supernatural and alien artifacts.
